Challenge 200: The Stages of Courtship
Characters: Severus Snape/Remus Lupin
Warnings: Er, it’s a bit strange?
Exit, from front of house, Severus Snape, fuming, closely followed by Remus Lupin.
Snape: That, Lupin, was without doubt the most appalling drivel I have ever had the misfortune to be subjected to in the name of entertainment! Utter tripe! [He spits in the gutter.]
Lupin: I am sorry, Severus. Truly I am. I had no idea what the play was going to be like. I’m afraid I’ve never had a great deal of money to spare for theatre trips before, so I just assumed that anything by such a famous writer would be, well, good.
Snape: Lupin, the whole thing was scarcely one of the author’s better works. Nothing more than a botched mish-mash of war, subterfuge and betrayal. But the final scene! Complete balderdash! It was quite clearly simply tacked on willy-nilly to provide the “happy ending” so beloved of those asinine idiots who cannot bear that their fiction be tainted with any semblance of reality. All’s well, indeed!
Lupin: So, you don’t think the hero and heroine would have ended up happily married?
Snape (derisively): Lupin, there is more chance of you and I being happily married.
Lupin: Ah, well, Severus, it’s funny you should mention that…
