Of course, unless I am reading it wrong, we don't know Mitchell died - and in fact, did Annie definitely pass over, or did the door just vanish in a flash of light? *resolves not to watch on half a bottle of wine in future*
But I really resent the way Russell Tovey is made to be the "star" of this and every other show, when I think he did no better than the others in his part. Flavour of the month, much? And I will be incredibly pissed off if these 6 episodes are it. < /rant >
I thought it was left on a cliff-hanger, where we don't know what Annie decides, and Mitchell hasn't completely died yet. So there's still the possibility that next episode will see Annie decide to stay and save Mitchell's unlife in some clever, unforseen way. I don't think you could have the show without the two of them.
But yes, there's the precedent of Ultraviolet for the idea that the series might end in just 6 episodes. It would be a shame, but if they go out with a blaze of glory I won't mind too much.
