fic: Stand and Deliver

Title: Stand and Deliver
Author: [livejournal.com profile] drachenmina
Word Count: 200 x 2
Rating: G
Challenge 200: The Stages of Courtship
Characters: Severus Snape/Remus Lupin
AN: This challenge apparently does strange things to my brain. Which it then reciprocates. AU, set in mid 17th century Scotland.

The coachman cracked the whip. Night was closing in upon them like the jaws of one of the wolves that still roamed these highlands, prowling for their prey. He shivered.

Suddenly the horses reared, and the coachman realised with rising dread that a sinister figure stood in their path. “Stand and deliver!” it ordered gruffly, although there was no sign of a weapon. But the horses trembled in their traces, their senses more perceptive perhaps than mere human eyes.

His sole passenger leaned out of the window. “What is it, man?”

“Robbery, sir,” the coachman told him hoarsely.

The passenger alighted and stalked to the coachman’s side. “Have you taken leave of your senses? This is one man, unarmed. What possible threat can he pose?”

“Not just a man, sir. For the love of God, sir, give him your valuables!”

The figure spoke to the passenger directly, in a voice surprisingly cultured for a foot-pad. “Indeed, sir, it would be wise. I should hate anything unpleasant to happen to you.”

The passenger snorted. “I am afraid, sir, that being merely a poor tutor, I have neither money nor valuables.”

A faint smile crossed the robber’s scarred features. “A kiss, then?”

….

The tutor froze. “A kiss? I fear, sir, the twilight has deceived you. I am no fair maiden.”

The foot-pad’s smile grew broader. “I assure you, sir, that my night vision is excellent. And I have no desire for maidens, fair or otherwise. But a kiss from you will serve as ample recompense for the lack of any monetary reward.” He stepped forward.

The horses shied away from the robber’s approach, but the tutor stood firm, although his heart raced.

Light-brown hair framed the foot-pad’s face with its intriguing scars, and he smelt of the forest and the hills, mysterious and earthy. His hand brushed a strand of jet-black hair out of the tutor’s face, occasioning a sharply in-drawn breath. Gently the robber leant forward and pressed his lips to the tutor’s.

The tutor responded in spite of himself, drinking in the taste of the man, its hints of wildness and of… blood? He drew back, startled.

The foot-pad smiled. “You may go. For now,” he added, slipping away into the rapidly falling night.

As the coachman drove off into the emerging light of the full moon, the tutor mopped his brow.

Not far behind them, a wolf howled, triumphant.

Oh, this is like the finest of chocolates! Delicious!

Here via an AU/non-magical fic list put together for this year's celebration of a decade of Lupin/Snape and I'm so glad I clicked on the link.
