In other news, I have put in an application to the Cinnamon Trust for a cat. I don’t imagine they’ll find one who will fit our family situation so it kind of suits me well - I’m dithering about whether I’m really looking or not, and I’m anxious about costs; and the Cinnamon Trust will only contact me if they find a cat which they think suits my situation (which I tried to describe in depth in various bits of the form, though whether the correct bits I don’t know), which is unlikely, plus they pay all vet bills, which is a *big* bonus.

Given the latter, I said we’d consider one with a minor health condition, especially since we got Honey when she was suffering from a skin condition which she had on and off for several years (before we discovered it was a grass allergy and stopped her going outside…actually, thinking back, it might not have been grass, but it was definitely the outside world because she was fine once we kept her in). But not one with a behavioural issue because we don’t have the spoons.

Trying to explain that while I was going to be in the house all the time, I wasn’t necessarily going to be available for the cat 24/7 was complicated, too. Like, yes I’m here, but I’m not actually *with* the cat because I can’t sleep with a cat thanks to needing to sleep in particular ways, sleeping very badly anyway and needing not to be woken more than I manage by myself etc…and when you spend 12+ hours asleep, that’s half the time you’re not with the cat. Granted some of that time, Jay is around the cat, but he doesn’t like to sleep with the cats either, so at night-night, neither of us would be around, nor would we sometimes in the day when he goes out when I’m asleep.

Like I said, I’m not sure how much of a good thing we look, especially as I’m only looking for a young or juvenile cat (though I think a lot of elderly people get their cats from the cinnamon trust so they may want older cats; other places have an faq about age limits and it’s about “no one under 21” and this one has one reassuring that there’s no upper age limit!) and I don’t know how many animals they get through down here (I know there’s a branch in Hayle). So I think it’s unlikely to come to anything. And I’m okay with that. Ares is still a bit restless and would like Zula back please. But he’s so much better now the boys have magically reappeared. It must be such a relief.

Thinky Thoughts: Academics Turn Me On

I’m such a nerd. I just finished taking a 10-week long college class about Romance and it was great.

It all started when I saw my on social media that Dr. Sam Hirst was offering an online class via University of Liverpool: “Falling in Love with Love: A History of Popular Romance.” She had posted that the class needed some more signups to be a go, and I jumped right in without really thinking about whether I truly had the time for it.

In fact, I somehow messed up up the time zone conversion and so I couldn’t even attend the live portion of the class for the first few weeks! But the online lectures, the reading material, and the films kept me quite busy.

Please include further details about what you’d like to receive: Something spicy, not necessarily explicit and not PWP--I like my spice with an actual plot. I often enjoy a not-completely-settled ending but I don't want to be left unbearably bereft or despairing. Absolutely no main character death or actual suicide. (Reichenbach issues are fine, especially if you want to improve on the disaster that was the Moftiss take on it.) I love family stories, so including Enola and/or Rosie would be welcomed. I do not approve of the way Nancy Springer wrote Mama Holmes, so feel free to improve on that! I do not think that Mr. and Mrs. Holmes, as portrayed in BBC Sherlock were as awful as Sherlock and Mycroft made them out to be (because Eurus does NOT exist) so I will take them in a "good enough parent" scenario. Along with my spice, I want some angst, too. That said, I am always up for silly fluffiness. Not crack, necessarily, but fun.
Special requests: I'd like to stretch a bit--please, some spice, some angst--I can write fluff with my eyes closed. I haven't tried Sherlock & Co, so I'm willing to dip my toes into that particular pool. I am also quite fond of research, so historical fic is always welcome. I'd prefer to write characters from BBC, Enola Holmes (TV), or Sherlock & Co and am willing to set them almost anywhere from the dawn of time to the present. (Ok, that may be an exaggeration, but hopefully you get the idea). I'd like to get away from ACD if possible.

Okay... this is an older fic and it's been driving mad trying to find it via searches, etc. I think it is a fairly long fic or a series with multiple stories. It is a FrostIron story. Hela is involved as well. Tony and Loki create an alliance to work together to defeat Thanos. While working together they become close friends and eventually end up in a relationship that by the end leads to marriage.

As ever, I absolutely love retirement era fluff. Holmes and Watson settled in Sussex with the bees, pottering about, makes me very happy.
I strongly read Holmes as autistic, so I’d love to see that included. The boy can hold so many sensory issues, and so much projection!
Something that would be really interesting to see is the boys interacting with the queer culture of their era. I’m thinking canon Holmes going to Molly houses, Rathbone Holmes speaking polari and going to underground clubs.
Do not want: any reference to vomit.
