Characters: Harry Potter/Severus Snape

The cupboard under the stairs in Spinner’s End was, of course, much bigger on the inside. Harry couldn’t help wishing a bit of wizard-space had been available when he’d been stuck with the Dursleys.

It held row upon neat row of vials containing swirling, silvery fluid. Snape had evidently not trusted his Occlumency to conceal his riskiest memories. But on the top shelf the colour changed to sparkling, effervescent gold.

“What’re those?” Harry asked, curious.

Hermione gave a pleased little “Oh! They’re daydreams. I’ve only seen them in books before. I suppose he didn’t want Voldemort to see anything that he might be able to use against him.”

“Yeah? Wonder what old Snape daydreamed about? Torturing students, probably,” Ron muttered in disgust.

“Well, they’re private, so we’ll never know, will we?” Hermione said firmly, closing the door.

It wasn’t hard, later that evening, for Harry to ignore the pricking of his conscience and creep out of Grimmauld Place to return to Spinner’s End. It was easy enough to open the cupboard door with a whispered Alohomora, and it was simplicity itself to upend one golden vial into a Pensieve and to follow it down until he was lost in Snape’s fantasy.

It was harder to deny that what he saw aroused him. No mean effort, to convince himself that the sight of two hard, sweaty male bodies writhing in passion did not do more for him than any amount of Ginny’s girlish kisses. An almost insuperable task, to refute the cold evidence that the only reason he was not hard and aching was that he had thrust a hand into his jeans and come convulsively in his pants at the first touch.

And impossible to forget that the two figures that featured in the daydream had been Snape and himself.

Oh, this is very effective ... a powerful piece of writing. Erotic, but sad to me. (Unless they find Snape the next day, or he's alive and recovering at St Mungos, and things progress from there.)

I love the idea of gold vials holding daydreams. Is that your invention? It's very clever, and I can easily see those being possible in the Wizarding world.

Oh, wonderful. I love the sparkling gold for the fantasies. Original use of magic, ftw. ;) You've summed up Harry (infernally curious & doing something about it, damn the consequences!), and Snape's powerful, but well concealed passionate nature. Bittersweet at the end, if all Harry is left with is Snape's dreams of what could have been....
